How do I sell my copyright?

In the United States, when you own a copyright you are granted a number of rights, some of those rights are exclusive some of those rights are nonexclusive.  Any or all of the rights that you have in your copyright may be transferred to another party or sold. Transfers of copyright are normally made by contract.  The transfer of an exclusive right is not valid unless that transfer is in writing and signed either by the owner of the rights conveyed or such owner’s authorized agent. Transfer of a right on a nonexclusive basis does not require a written agreement. The United States Copyright Law does allow you to record transfers of copyright ownership in the Copyright Office. You are not required to record your copyright transfer to have a valid transfer between the parties, but it provides certain legal advantages and may be required to validate the transfer against third parties.
