What is Copyright?

Copyrights are statutory property rights, which grant to authors or creators certain exclusive rights in their creations for a limited duration. Copyright law protects intangible original works of authorship which are fixed in a tangible medium of expression. In other words, copyright protects the expression of ideas, but not the ideas themselves. Copyright protects such works as books, pictures, graphic and sculptural works, music, photographs, movies and computer programs.
